Major Pentatonic Scale

The major pentatonic scale is again a five-note scale, but as the name describes, it has a "major" sound. It is derived from the major diatonic scale just as the minor pentatonic scale is derived from the natural minor.

Roots Pattern

Both major and minor pentatonic scale patterns are built around the same root pattern. The only difference is that the notes around the roots are altered to make the scale major or minor.

Pattern 1 of the major pentatonic scale looks exactly like Pattern 2 of the minor pentatonic. We just call different notes the roots.
